You can't spend TVPI

TVPI counts cash back plus what's still on paper. DPI counts only the cash that reached you. Which fund would you rather own?

What the film says

This fund shows two times your money. It has paid you nothing. TVPI counts everything: cash back plus what's still on paper. DPI counts only the cash that reached you. So which would you rather own? Fund A: TVPI two. DPI point one. Fund B: TVPI one point six. DPI one point two. A looks better. B has actually paid you back. You can't spend TVPI.

In the glossary: DPI

A simple example with round numbers, not advice. Terms vary by fund.
