Japan’s JIC eyes $8.2bn JSR exit to Mitsui Chemicals
Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · first reported by Private Equity Wire
Japan Investment Corporation (JIC) is preparing to sell JSR, a semiconductor materials maker, to Mitsui Chemicals in a deal that could top JPY1.3trn, or $8.2bn per the headline. Reuters, citing people familiar with the matter, says an agreement could come as early as November.
JIC bought JSR in 2024 for about JPY900bn. Mitsui Chemicals, with a market capitalisation of about JPY800bn, said it was considering an acquisition but had made no decision. Its shares fell 13% after the report, amid concerns over how the deal would be financed.
