Hedge Funds Backed an SEC Proposal to Ease U.S. Access to EU Bond Futures, Which Would Be the First Addition to the Exempt Issuer List Since 1999

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · first reported by HedgeCo

Hedge funds are backing a proposal before the SEC to ease U.S. access to European Union bond futures, Bloomberg reported. The Managed Funds Association has asked the SEC to put the EU on its list of exempt bond issuers. That would allow U.S. investors to trade EU debt futures under Commodity Futures Trading Commission oversight. Eurex and the Futures Industry Association also support the change.

Eurex launched the contracts in 2025 and says current rules have kept many U.S. participants out. The contracts have averaged just over 40 a day across the last 20 sessions. The addition would be the first to the list since 1999.
