The SEC has proposed modernizing the framework for interval funds and expanding the use of multiple share class structures.
Since August 2025, regulators have been looking for ways to give retail investors more indirect exposure to private issuers, as part of carrying out Executive Order 14330. The order told federal agencies to consider widening access to alternative investments, with retirement accounts among the routes. SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins has also made responsible retailization of private markets a priority for the agency.
