A bridge can borrow money only the bridge has to repay

Project finance funds one project through its own company, with debt repaid from the project's cash flow. It is usually non-recourse, so the sponsor's other assets are shielded, though some lenders ask for guarantees.

What the video says

In infrastructure, a bridge can borrow money that only the bridge repays. It's called project finance. A company is set up for just this project. Say it borrows eight hundred million to build. The loan is repaid from the project's own cash. In this case, the tolls. So lenders study the project itself, not the sponsor. If it fails, lenders usually can't reach the sponsor's other assets. So a sponsor can take on a big project without risking everything else. Sometimes the sponsor still guarantees part. So why do investors care? The project has to stand on its own numbers. The bridge pays for the bridge.
