Carlyle to acquire $7.7bn Truist personal loan portfolio
Friday, October 16, 2026 · first reported by Private Equity Wire and 2 others
Truist is selling Carlyle a pool of unsecured consumer loans valued at $7.7bn (£5.8bn). Carlyle's asset-backed finance (ABF) business is expanding through the purchase. Most of the loans carry fixed rates, amortise fully and were made to prime and super-prime borrowers.
The deal is being run by the ABF team within Carlyle's Global Credit platform. Akhil Bansal, partner and head of ABF, said banks increasingly use private capital to manage their balance sheets. Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
