Ground Up Investing (GUI), the impact investing arm of Corus International, has held a $6 million first close on its second fund. Corus is the anchor investor in the $20 million Fund 2.
The fund will lend to agricultural SMEs in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, using working capital loans with a two-year term. Loans typically range from $250,000 to $1 million. GUI aims for $10 of added farmer income per $1 invested, or $200 million in total, and better land management across more than 20,000 acres. Its first fund, launched in 2017, put $5 million into 15 businesses.
