Benefit Street Partners (BSP), Franklin Templeton's alternative credit arm, has widened its asset-backed finance platform by striking an arrangement with Encina Lender Finance. Commitments originated by Encina, worth roughly $480m, were purchased as a seed portfolio by a newly created vehicle. Franklin Templeton and funds affiliated with BSP stand behind it.
Encina's 14 investment professionals are joining BSP and will carry on originating and managing investments in the strategy. BSP says the combined platform can originate more than $3bn annually. Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett advised Franklin Templeton and BSP.
